What is worry?

Worry is the persistent state of unease or anxiety caused by concerns about uncertain or potential future events.

It is a natural human response to the challenges and uncertainties of life.

While some level of worry can be normal and even helpful, excessive worry can be detrimental to our well-being.

As we get older there is a tendency to worry more about health, financial stability, and the well-being of loved ones....perhaps because there is just more to worry about!

Implications of Worrying to Our Health

Excessive worry can take a toll on both our mental and physical health.

Prolonged periods of worry have been associated with increased stress levels, sleep disturbances, impaired concentration, weakened immune system, and even chronic conditions such as hypertension and heart disease.

Taking control of your worries is vital for maintaining a balanced and healthy life.

The cycle of Worry

The cycle of worry refers to a pattern of anxious thoughts and behaviors that can perpetuate and intensify feelings of worry and anxiety.

While experiences may vary, the following is a generalised representation of the cycle.  Do you recognise any of these stages?

1. Trigger

3. Physical and emotional response

2. Negative Thoughts

The cycle of worry often begins with a trigger, which can be a specific event, situation, or even a thought. This trigger activates a sense of unease or concern.

2. Negative Thoughts

3. Physical and emotional response

2. Negative Thoughts

Once triggered, you may start to experience negative thoughts related to the trigger. These thoughts may be exaggerated, catastrophic, or irrational, magnifying the perceived threat or danger.

3. Physical and emotional response

3. Physical and emotional response

As the negative thoughts persist, you may experience physical and emotional responses, such as increased heart rate, sweating, restlessness, irritability, or a sense of impending doom.

4. Seeking reassurance

4. Seeking reassurance

3. Physical and emotional response

To alleviate the anxiety caused by the negative thoughts, individuals often seek reassurance from others or engage in repetitive behaviors, such as checking or seeking information. This temporary relief provides a sense of security but can reinforce the cycle in the long run.

5. Temporary relief

4. Seeking reassurance

5. Temporary relief

Seeking reassurance or engaging in repetitive behaviors may temporarily alleviate the anxiety. You may feel a brief respite from worry, providing a sense of relief.

6. Return of worry

4. Seeking reassurance

5. Temporary relief

Despite the temporary relief, the worry tends to resurface as the person's mind fixates on new triggers or reverts to previous concerns. This perpetuates the cycle, leading to a continuous loop of worry and anxiety.

Reducing Worry: Embrace a Worry-Free Lifestyle

I understand the impact of worry on your well-being, and I am here to help you overcome it. Here are some effective strategies to reduce worry:

  1. Challenge Your Worries: Question the validity of your worries and examine evidence that contradicts them, helping you gain perspective.
  2. Engage in Regular Exercise: Physical activity releases endorphins, which improve mood and help alleviate stress and anxiety.
  3. Seek Support: Sharing your concerns with trusted friends, family, or a professional counselor can provide valuable insights and emotional support.
  4. Explore EFT Tapping: Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) tapping is a therapeutic approach that combines acupressure and psychological techniques to reduce stress, anxiety, and worry. By gently tapping on specific meridian points on the body while focusing on your worries, you can release negative emotions and promote a sense of calm.

How Can EFT Tapping Help Reduce Worry?

EFT tapping is a powerful tool for managing worry. By addressing the underlying emotional issues that contribute to excessive worry, EFT tapping can help you:

  • Release negative thought patterns and limiting beliefs that fuel worry.
  • Alleviate the physical symptoms associated with worry, such as tension and restlessness.
  • Promote relaxation, balance, and a sense of emotional well-being.
  • Develop resilience and coping mechanisms to handle future worries effectively.I

I offer expert guidance in EFT tapping on a 1-2-1 or group basis to help you conquer your worries and reclaim control over your life.

As an experienced practitioner I am dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment for your personal growth.
